Dr. Erin Adams is a board-certified dermatologist who is a native of Richmond, VA. She is excited to continue the tradition of providing exceptional medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatologic care to the patients of Midlothian Dermatology.
Dr. Adams graduated with distinction as an Echols scholar from the University of Virginia. She received her M.D. from the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine (MCV) in 2002 and graduated in the top 10% of her class as an Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society inductee. Upon finishing a transitional internship at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and serving 5 years as a U.S. Navy flight surgeon, Dr. Adams completed her residency in dermatology at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD where she was chief resident and recognized for her teaching excellence. She had extensive training in cutaneous laser surgery both for cosmetic and wounded warrior indications. Additionally, she is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), having been selected for the AAD Leadership Forum, invited to lecture at annual meetings, and involved in various committees, task forces/ work groups and volunteer activities.
Most recently, Dr. Adams has been the Chief of Dermatology at the Central Virginia VA Healthcare System in Richmond while teaching residents as a clinical associate professor of dermatology at VCU. Prior to that, she was in private practice in Glen Allen and had previously been a staff dermatologist and clinical assistant professor at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center dermatology clinic and residency training program. She served as the Dermatology Representative to the White House Medical Unit, providing dermatologic services and advice to the White House staff and medical team. Additionally, she ran a V.I.P. clinic while there, providing wide-ranging cosmetic services. She routinely instructed residents at both programs in medical and surgical dermatology as well as providing specialized instruction in cosmetic procedures.
Dr. Adams served for 12 years on active duty with the U.S. Navy, including deployments and humanitarian missions. She has served an additional 12 years in the U.S. Navy Reserves, including a mobilization to NYC during the COVID-19 pandemic where she provided care to Covid patients in the Javits Center. After completing 2 years as a flight surgeon with a Marine squadron, she will retire with 25 years of service to the U.S. Navy in September 2023.
Dr. Adams, and her husband, Carl (a retired Chesterfield firefighter/paramedic), are the parents of 2 children and one Bernedoodle puppy named Rolo.
Midlothian Dermatology is truly a family affair as you'll find Carl supervising the front office and might even see the kids helping in various ways at the practice.
